2009 Lucky Xiii Class

October 16, 2012  • Henry Crown Fellows Newsletter

Carla Vernon and Rosa Scarcelli both sent notes about the first Lucky XIII Class reunion.  Carla writes:  “The Lucky XIII hosted our first reunion with the beautiful vistas of the San Francisco Bay at our back. The reunion featured robust discussions of our readings, a Shabbat dinner at the lovely home of Lily Kanter and her husband Marc Sarosi, and some much needed R&R. Another important mission of this reunion was to being the process of recording the legendary talents of Ben and Skip as moderators. The Lucky XIII and the Aspen Institute hope that other classes will join in our efforts to raise money to develop and distribute video recordings of our gifted moderators at work.”  And Rosa reported:  “The Lucky XIII class celebrated its first reunion at the beginning of August in San Francisco at the beautiful Cavallo Point resort. We were blessed with a strong turn out. Ricky Arriola, Tamsin Smith, Paul Gaffney, Michelle Kydd Lee, Lily Kanter, Susie Hassan, Jeff Mendelsohn, Carla Vernon, Anita Antenucci, Preeta Bansal, Rebecca Blumenstein and I turned up to take part in the long missed seminar discussions and lively social time. Tim Ferriss made a cameo appearance during his break from writing another NYT best seller. And, we were skillfully moderated by Skip Battle. I think we were all reminded how lucky we are to have a group of people in our lives that can challenge us like no one else can. It was a great retreat beautifully planned by the reunion committee lead by our beloved Paul Gaffney without whom it may never have come together. I look forward to seeing everyone we missed this year at our next reunion in 2013 if not before.”
