Mehtab Khan is a doctoral candidate at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. She was also a Fellow at the Center for Technology, Society and Policy in 2019. The fellowship supported an ongoing interdisciplinary project on the implications of the use of emotion recognition to make hiring decisions. This project adds to conversations about the impact of applications powered by Artificial Intelligence. In the workplace, the use of affect technology to categorize emotions and personality traits of raises pressing ethical and regulatory questions that cut across various legal frameworks such as privacy, consumer law and worker rights.
Before joining the doctoral program at Berkeley Law, Mehtab worked as a lawyer in United States, Pakistan and Malaysia. She has worked on a wide range of issues at the intersection of law and technology.
